Winter Is Calling, Ski Touring Season Officially Opens from February 2026
Winter is approaching, and with it one of the most anticipated seasons in the Caucasus:
Ski Touring on and around Mount Kazbek.
For years, Altihut 3014 has been more than a mountain hut.
It is a philosophy of exploration, community, and respect for nature. It has become a basecamp for athletes, writers, scientists, climbers, and curious souls chasing silence, snow, and real adventure.
This winter will be no exception.
Around the world, backcountry skiing is breaking out of its niche roots and becoming the sport of choice for those seeking freedom beyond crowded lifts and noisy resorts those who value wilderness and care about the environment. More skiers are choosing wild ridgelines, untouched snowfields, and the discipline of earning their turns.
With dramatic volcanic slopes and a long powder season, the Caucasus is now one of the most exciting regions on the global ski touring map.
Last season, we hosted guests from over 15 countries, many traveling specifically to explore ski touring routes around Kazbegi.
This winter, we are eager to welcome even more adventure seekers looking for an authentic alpine experience and sustainable wilderness travel.
We are proud to share that alongside the growth of recreational ski mountaineering and with our support Georgia has officially joined the international SKIMO family, International Ski Mounteneering Federation.
The United Georgian Federation of Mountaineers has become a full member of the ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation), a milestone that will significantly support the development of competitive ski mountaineering in the country.
This season, we are honored to host several distinguished mountain guides and their groups. In particular, two important partnerships stand out:
1. Partnership with Peter Schön
Together with our friend and respected ski guide Peter Schön, we have designed a special 8-day ski mountaineering program based at Altihut.
Tailored for advanced athletes, the itinerary features long high-altitude days, technical ascents and descents, and potential first-descent opportunities on the steep slopes surrounding Altihut.
2. Cooperation with Mathias Hediger
We are also proud to continue our collaboration with Mathias Hediger; ISMF guide, mountain rescuer, paramedic, outdoor coach, and one of the founders of Altihut.
Mathias will lead several tours this season, using Altihut as his basecamp for guests arriving from the Alpine Republic of Switzerland.
And of course, Altihut ensures that packing is simple and stress-free, our team has you covered responsibly and with our philosophy of an “increased pie”.
No need to worry about airline fees or oversized luggage hassles.
You can pre-order ski touring equipment through our partners at Mplus and receive your full setup on arrival in Tbilisi.
Travel light. No worries. No extra weight. No extra carbon emissions.
Because adventure should never cost the planet, nor cost you extra.
Just don’t forget your towel in case of interstellar travel, you never know.
